Students give their views, opinions and ideas to a group of annually elected representatives who oversee the running of the Union on the member's behalf. These elected students are the Student Executive Officers.

Where is the Union building?

The Union building is located in the heart of the University of Leeds campus. Our address is: Lifton Place, Leeds, LS2 9JT.

Where can I find a map of campus and ask for directions?

You can ask the LUU Helpdesk staff for directions and you can also buy a campus map from the Helpdesk for free.

The Union is a charity - what does this mean?

All the money we raise from the shops, bars, club nights and events is used to fund all the great things the Union has to offer including a free Advice Centre, Student Activities, and your own radio, newspaper and TV station.  See more at www.leedsuniversityunion.org.uk/thankyou

Who funds the Union?

Leeds University Union receives £2million each year from the University of Leeds and raises another £8million per year through fundraising, shops, bars, events and other activities. Students decide how the money is spent.

Is the Union part of the University?

We are independent from the University. However, we do work very closely with them and they provide us with funding as we are a key part of campus life. The Union ensure that our members get the best deal possible out of their fees while at the University of Leeds.

Can I see the Code of Practice agreed between LUU and the University?

The Code of Practice agreed between the Union and the University are available to download for the University website at: www.leeds.ac.uk/secretariat/luu_codes_and_procedures.

Who are LUU affiliated with?

Leeds University Union affiliations for 2010 to 2011 can be viewed by downloading the document (pdf).

When is the Union building open?

The Union building is open all year round. Opening times are Monday to Saturday, 8.30am to 11.45pm, and Sunday, 12.00noon to 11.45pm. This may vary out of term time. For opening times of LUU's services, shops and bars please see the Contact Us page.

Who can use the building and the facilities in it?

The Union building houses various shops, restaurants, bars and clubs as well as services such as the Student Advice Centre, Joblink and Students Activities. These are member only services designed to help students through their time at university.
There are, however, a number of venues within the Union Building which are available for hire to both members and non-members. For information about booking a bar or club venue, go to the bars' web pages and fill out the online form or contact the Venues Department at tel: 0113 3801 342. Conference facilities are also available, see 'Conferencing at LUU'.

I'm having problems logging into my website account

If you're having problems registering or signing in to this website, please see our account help page.

Where do I go to check lost property?

All property lost in the Union and Refectory is handed in to the LUU Helpdesk, either on the day it is lost, or at the latest 48 hours later. Items that have been left in the cloakroom after events will also be brought to the Helpdesk and stored here.
For some items, such as student cards or mobile phones, the Helpdesk will attempt to contact you to let you know it has been handed in. Even if you have not heard from us it is still worth checking whether or not your item has been found. Please note that as a security measure it is our procedure to destroy bank cards if they have not been collected by 7.00pm on the day they were handed in.
Due to limited space we will only store lost property for three weeks, unless you contact us beforehand to let us know you will collect your item at a later date. No-one else can collect property for you on your behalf and we do require proof of ownership for some valuables. We can, however, post items out when necessary. Please call us on 0113 3801 400 or come to the Helpdesk and we’ll check the lost property stores for you.

Where can I buy a mobile phone top up?

From the Cooperative cash machines in the Union building (there is one on the retail floor). The nearest shop is the newsagents opposite the Parkinson Building.

Where is there a cash machine?

There is a cash machine situated on the ground floor near the Helpdesk, one outside the Old Bar, Essentials, Gear, and also the Santander bank, opposite Sesame.

Why can’t I buy bottled water?

In 2009 students voted for a ban on bottled water being sold in the Union shops. As a result, the Union has installed a number of water fountains in the Union building. So bring your own water bottle or you can purchase one from Essentials.

Where can I buy stationery / lunch, etc?

For stationery, pop into Essentials – they have a great range or pencils, pens, notepads, accessories and arts supplies. The Union building houses a number of outlets where you can pick up and take away your lunch: Essentials, the Union’s own convenience store, where you can pick up a meal deal. There are also various other external outlets including: The Pasty Company, Jaldi Jaldi, or Sesame.
For a more relaxed lunch, try the Terrace, Old Bar, or Hidden Cafe. The Terrace has a large menu of lunch options including salads, sandwiches, burgers and lite bites. For pub-style food, visit the Old Bar, and for those with a sweet tooth, the Hidden Cafe is what you need!

Is wireless Internet access available on campus/in the Union?
