About Us.

We pride ourselves in being a diverse dance society who incorporates a fusion of dance styles into our weekly classes including Street, Jazz, Hip hop, Commercial, House and Contemporary. We annually compete at a national and international level and have gained much success.

We are an all inclusive society, welcoming dancers of all abilities and ages. We believe it is very important that our members get a sense of community in our society therefore regular socials are a must!

Check out our social media channels to view our dances and find our more information.

Classes.

Dance classes run all term every week for beginners and intermediate/advanced.

All our classes are open to anyone you do not need to be a student at Leeds University.

Class 1 and 2 will be held Wednesdays in Michael Sadler LG.10 on the University Campus.

Class 1 is 6pm – 7pm and class 2 is 7pm - 8pm.

As well as classes we will be holding GIVE IT A GO sessions, where classes will be available for a discount price in order for you to ‘give’ our society ‘a go’.

Our first GIAG will be held on October 12th 2016 @ 6PM in Michael Sadler LG.10

Competitions.

Freestyle Dance competes at various competitions throughout the year ranging from within LUU, against other UK universities at the biggest university dance competitions and even abroad when we go on tour!

In 2015/16 Freestyle were undefeated in 3 competitions, over 6 categories making us LUU’s highest achieving Dance Society!

This year we hope to raise the bar on our competitions by competing at an Advanced level for the first time!

Choreographers.

We are extremely excited to announce that this year we have 3 choreographers working with us!

Taking our classes and teaching our LUU competition routine will be Cheeks Carr!

Cheeks Carr trained at Northern School of Contemporary Dance for 3 years, and has been a professional choreographer for 6. With such widely varying styles as hip-hop, house, popping, locking, commercial and contemporary to name a few, she's the perfect fit for us. In the past she's worked with competition teams and crews as well as performing in and choreographing music videos. She's also trained all over the world including Hong Kong, LA, Paris and Poland and has worked with such stars as Rita Ora, BBC, Adidas etc.

Teaching our jazz and contemporary competition routines this year is Julius Ebreo!

Julius has been with us for the past 4 years and has helped us to win prizes all over the world, including best choreography and best dance society and choreographed many of our award winning routines! He recently performed at Buckingham Palace for a special performance of Romeo & Juliet for the Royal Family and has provided artistic direction and choreography for Jane Cho's Elektra, London Fashion Week and also for the Cartoon Opera Company. Not to mention his performance in one of Plan B's music videos and recent filming for multi-million dollar films to be released soon and the UK/International tour of We Will Rock You!

Teaching our hiphop competition routine this year is Ess Green!

Ess has traveled around the world working with the industries finest, learning and training the foundations of HipHop and street styles. A lot of people would have seen Ess on Got to Dance with his crew the A Team who made it to the finals in 2012. Credits include JLS, Kimberly Wyatt and West End 5 star rated Hip Hop Theatre Show 'Some Like It Hip Hop' by ZooNation.

Socials.

Freestyle also hosts a number of socials each term.

Our socials are a great way to get to know your fellow dancers and committee members, and if you are a Fresher, joining our society and coming on our socials is an amazing way to meet a diverse range of people; and trust us, you will make the best friends you’ve ever had.

We already have plans for various types of socials from nights out to visiting the German market at Christmas, ice skating and meals! We have something planned nearly every week so come along and relax with us.

Another major highlight of the freestyle calendar is our international trip abroad for TOUR in the April holiday! We can guarantee it will be one of the funniest and entertaining weeks of your life and an amazing opportunity to compete internationally and meet other dancers from all over the UK.
