Hallo from German Society!

Do you study German, love Germany or have an interest in German speaking countries? Maybe you just love German Football, Beer and Bratwurst!? If so, German Society is the one for you!

We offer the chance to meet with other German enthusiasts, both English and German speaking, and to experience a part of the amazing German culture in a friendly, close knit society.

You can read about some of the events that we run below.

Was machen wir?

We meet every 2 weeks, for two hours in the GRASS foyer (2nd floor of the Michael Sadler building). Basically what it says on the tin! Free coffee, cake and biscuits, and the chance to meet other German & ERASMUS students.
Twice a month at the authentic Bavarian style Bierkeller Leeds! Expect cheap drinks, beer pong, a bit of table dancing and just general German banter. Normally followed by discounted entry in to a club after a couple of Steins!

Our society's annual trip to Berlin in December! A chance to experience the centre of German history and culture, as well as one of Europe's nightlife capitals. A huge success every year, you'll have an amazing time, meet great new people, and make memories which will stay with you way past your University career. Keep your eyes peeled for soon to be released information about the 2016 trip, so you don't miss out!

Football is another important part of our society. We have a team in the 11-a-side Saturday league and training (5-a-side kick-about) happens at least once a week. This is a great way to get to know other GermanSoc members in all years! Anyone is welcome to play, it is free for first years and there are no trials held. To get involved, simply join the Facebook group: The Deutsche Fußball Group, or speak to our Sports Secretaries on Facebook, Beau Gatward and Shaun Parsons.

Once a year, German Societies from around the country meet up in one place for an awesome day of Football and competitive spirit. Not only have we been reigning champions for the past 3 consecutive years but we always blow the other societies out of the water when it comes to support, showing how fantastisch our Society really is! This is an event for everyone to get involved in (the more the better!). You can like the Sauerkraut Cup on Facebook here.

Trips to the German-style market in Leeds city centre, Schlittschuhlaufen at the outdoor ice rink, pub quizzes, film nights and much, much more. We're always looking for new and exciting things to do as a society so please let us know any suggestions you have!

If all that didn't convince you how great we are, GermanSoc is proud to boast a prestigious Riley Award for Best Campaign! Our society is the only departmental society to have achieved such an award, so we're keen to show it off!

If you have any questions please feel free to contact us on Facebook/Twitter/Instagram or simply by email at
We hope to see you all soon and can't wait to get to know you and welcome you to our society!
