Our aim is to make the game as accessible, affordable and welcoming as possible. Come along and have a go!

Weekly Training Sessions

The club trains at ‘White Rose Polo Club’ in York and welcomes all abilities, from beginners who fancy giving it a go, to novice and HPA players - handicapped intermediate players who may have played competitively at secondary school. For those who are interested, the club organises regular friendlies against its neighbouring regional universities, such as York and Newcastle. There are also bi-annual SUPA inter-university tournaments at which LUUPC has had some great successes!

The Game

Equestrian polo is a team sport in which the objective is to score goals against the opposing team by moving the ball down-field into the opposing team’s goal using a long-handled mallet. Games are taught and umpired by qualified officials. Polo is played outdoors at speed (using a small, hard plastic ball) on a large grass field. In the winter we play on White Rose's excellent all-weather outdoor arena with an arena ball.

Our Club

The society is relatively new, but has established itself within the University-playing community following recent success by its Novice team at the most recent national universities’ arena tournament at Rugby – the team were placed second in the final having lost to Bristol UWE in a nail-biting sudden-death penalty shoot-out.

As the club grows so do the opportunities - in the summer of 2013 a polo trip to South Africa took place!
