RocSoc is the largest society in the School of Earth and Environment, open to all students from all disciplines and year groups. We aim to provide a social society that will make your time at the University of Leeds more memorable, through exciting events, interesting talks and incredible belemnites.

Our current committee is dedicated to ensuring all members, new and old have a brilliant year. Planned events include:  the legendary "find the belemnite" trip to Whitby, a trip to Europe (past locations have included Berlin, Amsterdam and Budapest) Christmas Party, Summer Ball, Otley Runs, caving days, bouldering, comedy nights, fortnightly talks from outside speakers and much more!

We organise weekly socials to keep you up to date with departmental gossip, give you a chance to chill out and meet people from all age groups, from fellow freshers to PhDs and even the occasional lecturer.

RocSoc keeps you up to date with developments in Geology in the form of fortnightly talks, be it hearing about the Curiosities search for life on Mars, the world of submarine channels or the crystal systems in volcanoes. We also have talks with a little less geological focus such as talks on Vern's Geology of Wine!

RocSoc membership also gives you membership to the Leeds Geological Association and an awesome 15% discount at selected outdoor stores.

Lifetime membership to RocSoc is £20 but for freshers there is a discount when purchasing a Whitby place for the excellent price of £50. Current members can purchase a Whitby place for £40. Freshers have priority on the trip but tickets will be opened up to everyone after Freshers' Week. Whitby fills up quickly every year so book early to avoid disappointment.

Or if you want to make sure you make the most of your time in Leeds you can buy our Freshers Full Monty package which includes RocSoc membership, a Whitby place and membership to SOEE Sports Club For £60. Visit the SOEE Sports page for more information.

Membership can be bought on the page below. Alternatively you can buy membership at our stall in the Freshers' Fair and BBQ!

If you have any questions keep an eye out for the committee members, you will find us around the department as well as on the Freshers' Week trips.

Each committee brings something new, and we will be no different, but the focus remains on making sure you have a family away from home and giving you experience the best year possible. If you want to be part of a society that puts the fun in dysfunctional, is action packed and will give you friends and brilliant memories for life, then get involved!
