Hello and welcome to SocSoc!
SocSoc is one of Leeds' friendliest, most proactive and diverse societies. Run entirely by University of Leeds students, we are open to anybody studying Sociology, Social Policy or any variation including Social Policy and Crime, Social Policy and Enterprise and much more. However, we are more than welcoming towards anybody who does not study these subjects too.
What we do
SocSoc was created to give our members the best university experience possible. We aim to have activities to suit every single one of our members from traditional undergraduates to mature students to international students and even those who do not study our core subjects but have a deep interest in it.
Here is a quick idea of things you can expect from us throughout the following year:
- Socials - club nights, pub nights, coffee mornings, karaoke, meals, picnics and of course, the famous Leeds 'Otley Run'
- A men's football team
- A women's netball team
- Talks from guest speakers and local sociologists
- Fundraising events
If there is anything else that you would like to do, please get in touch and we will do our best to arrange something for you.

A word from the social secs
We've got a very exciting year planned out for you all. Our aim is to make SocSoc as integrated as we can, with providing a platform for people to make links and friendships easier.
SocSoc socials are for everyone! We plan to host fun and exciting nights out and events at some of the most popular venues in Leeds (at a discounted SocSoc price of course). Pre-drinks for socials are often held at Revolutions bar and there'll be free drinks included on us! Our schedule aims to host at least one social every ¾ weeks and a big end of term social at the end of every semester to wrap things up on the best high possible.

A word from the fundraising secretary
From bakesales and quiznights to competitions and raffles, we are planning to organise various fundraising evens tough out the year to raise money for a chosen charity that will be decided by you during freshers' week.
If there are any students looking to volunteer next year, I am happy to help in terms of contacting charities or finding oppurtunities to volunteers.
A word from very the netball captain
SocSoc netball is for anyone who's ever played netball or anyone who wants to start! It involves weekly casually competitive matches against other societies. There's nothing majorly serious about it and it's a great opportunity to socialise and participate in an alternative form of exercise. I've been in the SocSoc netball team since first year and find it so fun and definitely made some great mates through it. I'm sure you've all played netball at some point in your school careers, even if just at secondary. Bring some mates and come see what it's like, there are no trials or anything it's just a great opportunity for some team fun and post-match pints.
