Vertical Fitness is a revolutionary way to exercise whilst having fun! In one workout we combine flexibility, strength and balance, all based around the aerial art of hoop and pole dance. Our classes are designed to build your self-confidence and make you feel good about yourself, whilst getting fit and meeting new people.
We aim to fight the stigma and prejudice surrounding pole dancing. Pole dancing needs to be recognised for the sheer power, skill and talent involved to perform complicated moves so effortlessly.
Vertical Fitness is a very addictive and versatile sport, and absolutely anyone and everyone is welcome. All of our sessions are taken by qualified instructors, teaching moves step-by-step and allowing time for conditioning and strength exercises.
We cater for all abilities, most people who attend our classes are complete beginners but you will be amazed as how quickly you progress! You can be any shape or size, you really don’t have to have any fitness to join or be strong or flexible, just come along to have some fun!

MEMBERSHIP & CLASS PRICES
Memberships cost just £25 for the whole year; this gets you some great perks such as 20% off X-pole products and discounted kit, socials and trips! We have two levels of membership; beginner and intermediate. Intermediate memberships are suitable for those who have attended classes for 1 year and can confidently invert. Keep an eye on our Facebook and Twitter pages for membership release updates.
The class price is a steal, we offer cards with 6 classes for just £20 - that works out as less than £3.50 a class (most pole schools charge at least £10 an hour!). These classes can be used to attend any combination of the pole, aerial hoop and acrobalance classes on offer. They don't have to be used on consecutive weeks, so you can come whenever it suits you! We allow no more than 3 people to a pole, and 4 people to a hoop, so you can really make the most of your time!
IMPORTANT: Due the Union refurbishments our bookings may be cancelled and rearranged. This is out of our control and means that our classes may not be on regular days each week. Our current timetable for Semester 1 is:
Monday 5-6 pm Flexibility (open to all levels).
Monday 6-7pm, 7-8pm, 8-9pm Pole for beginners.
Tuesdays 5-6pm Pole Jam (open to all levels), 6-7pm, 7-8pm Pole for intermediates.
Wednesdays 5-6pm, 6-7pm Aerial Hoop (open to all levels)
Every other Thursday 5-6pm, 6-7pm Silks classes (open to all levels).
Sessions must be signed up for in advance; sign-up sheets are emailed to members at the same time every week, 5pm on Fridays, and work on a first-come-first-served basis!
If you have signed up for a session but you can no longer make it, don't panic! We just ask that you let us know by 10am that you won't be coming so somebody else can take your place. See the Cancellation Policy document below for more information.
Even if you don't get a membership there are still opportunities to get involved in the society! Non-members are welcome to attend socials, including our pizza and pole jams. If spaces on sessions don't fill up 24hrs before the class, the sign-up sheet will be made public on Facebook for non-members to sign up and attend for £5. This doesn't happen very often though!
We have held many amazing socials this year! Including pizza and pole jams and our traditional start of the year scavenger hunt, the end of year BBQ, and many great nights out. We stuffed ourselves at the Christmas meal, went on Dance Tour, and danced the night away at the Dance Ball. We also travelled to the UK Pole Professioinal Championships 2015 where we watched some incredible and truly inspiring performances. We are so excited to hold many more awesome events this year!
We also offer private sessions to other societies as a unique, fun and alcohol-free social opportunity! Check out our social package in the documents list below for more information.
Every year we perform at the LUU Fringe Festival, LUU Dance Competition (where we have won Best Concept 2015 and Best Society 2013), Dance Showcase, and The Riley Awards! We have also performed at the Fresher's Party and RAG Safer Sex Ball. One of our members also competed at Step Up to the Pole and won 2nd place in the Intermediate category.

WHAT TO BRING
Normal gym bottoms or shorts and a top are perfect to wear for pole - just avoid anything with zips or buttons and jewellery will need to be removed. This protects both the pole and you! It's also a good idea to avoid moisturising for 24hrs before a class so you don't slip off the pole! Sessions are done in bare feet but feel free to bring trainers for the warm up and cool down.
For aerial hoop, you may want to cover up a bit more to avoid friction burns! Leggings and a tshirt are great.
Alternatively you could get yourself the beautiful Vertical Fitness kit!
This year we have been lucky enough to secure sponsorship with some of the biggest names in the pole retail industry, giving fantastic perks to our members and the society as a whole.
With over 100 members annually and many fantastic ways for sponsors to get involved, we have a lot to give back in return for any sponsorship offers we get. If you are interested in sponsoring our society, drop us an email at email@example.com
