Please note: Applications to volunteer close on Monday 9th October 2017, after this we cannot accept anymore applications for the whole year. You can however still get involved through joining our Fundrasing Team ("Bedside Buddies Fundraising Team 2017/18" on Facebook)!

Awarded 'Best New Society' in 2015, Bedside Buddies is a exciting scheme that sends students to play with children on the paediatric wards in the LGI. By talking to the children, playing games, doing arts and crafts, and a range of other fun activities, we aim to make children feel more comfortable in hospital and to alleviate boredom or loneliness. If you have a passion for working with and helping children then this society is perfect for you!

Students volunteer for two hours every week, either in the morning, afternoon, or evening. The LGI is right next to campus so it's very easy to get to. All university students can apply to volunteer through a formal application process, which involves obtaining a DBS and volunteering contract with the hospital. There is also the opportunity to get involved in fundraising for the children's hopsital, or with volunteering on one-off events at the hospital. Monday 9th October 2017 is the application deadline to volunteer and we cannot accept anymore applications after this for the whole year. Applications to volunteer on the wards will only open again in September 2018. You can still be involved in Bedside Buddies throughout the year by joining our fundraising team at any time (see our Facebook page which has a link to our fundraising group) to help raise money for Bedside Buddies and coming along to our socials!

We will be holding a GIAG on Thursday 28th September 8-9pm in LUU Room 6 to provide more information about the society and to explain the application process. If you are interested in getting involved then please book a place through the union website and come along!

Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions. Our email address is and our facebook page is Leeds Bedside Buddies. We will also be at the freshers fair, so come along and visit our stall to find out more!
