Welcome to the Univeristy of Leeds Boat Club.
We welcome rowers of all abilities and experience!
Whether you have never rowed before or you are a complete veteran, our ever-growing fleet and new boathouse mean we have the facilities to cater for all. You can join one of the competitive performance squads or if you'd prefer a more relaxed approach, we have Intermediate squad too.
Senior Performance Squads:
If you are an experienced oarsmen, and want to compete at prestigious events such as HoRR and WeHoRR, Henley Women's Regatta and Henley Royal Regatta join the senior performance squad to represent the University in BR and BUCS events throughout the year.
Senior Intermediate Squad:
If you are competent in a boat, join our more relaxed Intermediate squad. If you just like the idea of having a paddle without the intensity of training reguarly, this squad is for you.
Our novice squads are open to all and no experience is required. We will teach you everything from scratch and you will be rowing like a pro in no time!
If rowing is not for you... how about coxing? We welcome coxes of all experience. We will teach you the calls and you will be in charge of your own crew in no time!
Land / Recreational:
If you are wanting to get involved with our large, social club but the competitive racing and hard training is not for you, why not join as a land based member? This gives you access to our whole club circuit sessions which take place twice weekly on Mondays and Thursdays. It will give you an insight and experience training to the standard required for rowing.
Land based training takes place on a Monday in the Edge Sport Hall 2, 5pm - 6.30pm and on a Thursday in Cromer Terrace, 6.30 - 8 pm. Everyone is welcome to these fast paced circuit sessions aimed at improving core strength. Coaches will provide a range of exercises throughout the session allowing for members of all abilities and fitness levels to enjoy the workout. Both seniors and novices take part in weekly erg sessions, and weekly S&C sessions.
Water outings take place at a convenient time for all members of a crew during the week and on Saturday and Sundays. Our £1 million boathouse which opened in September 2014, only a 20 minute bike ride from the Parkinson building.
Give It A GO!
If you're interested in joining our friendly club sign up to one of our Give It A Go (GIAG) taster sessions to meet the committee, learn about the club and have a go in a small boat. We will show you correct technique on an erg (rowing machine) before having a go on the water. Each session takes around 2 hours are we will pick you up from the Parkinson steps and drop you back at the end of your session. Please remember to bring a warm change of clothes and a towel.
This year we are holding multiple GIAG days at our new boathouse and Roundhay Lake. They will be held from 25th September - 6th October. Come and find us at freshers fair for more information, or click on the events tab to book your slot now! Limited spaces are available so book now to avoid disappointment! The session has a small fee to cover transport and coaching costs.
