Who are we?

LUU Book Club is the society for book enthusiasts; people who love to read, people who wish they read more and people who want to expand their reading field. If this description fits you and you fancy reading something other than a textbook, join us!

When do we meet?

We meet every Wednesday from 6pm-8pm in Worsely Seminar room 8.11F and enjoy a variety of book-related activities.

What do we do?

We try to read and discuss one book every 2-3 weeks, but, being students ourselves, we understand that sometimes reading a whole book when you've got deadlines galore isn't always feasible so even if you haven't managed to get stuck into our latest read be sure to come along to our book discussions anyway for some lively discussion and free snacks! We also plan on releasing a list of up-coming books so you can read ahead of schedule if there’s a time when your uni workload is lighter!

We also like our members to have a say in the society and ask them for suggestions on which books to read - be they classics, contemporary novels, sci-fi, crime, chick-lit or non-fiction, the list goes on and on…we’re open to anything! Books in the past have ranged from The Book Thief by Markus Zusak, to 1984 by George Orwell and The Selfish Gene by Richard Dawkins!

In the weeks between each book discussion we hold other events such as pub quizzes, cinema trips, games nights, film screenings and even an outing or two around Yorkshire. This semester we’ve got a screening of Brooklyn as one of our GIAG's and a book-themed Otley Run to look forward to! Check out our Events page for a full list of what we have lined up for members this year!

How can you join us?

Joining us is easy! Membership is just £3 for the whole year which goes towards purchasing copies of our latest books for members to borrow! If you come along to your first session (no need to become a member beforehand) and you like it, sign-up using the links on this page. We also have some fab sponsorship deals in the pipeline and we will keep you updated regarding membership perks over the coming weeks!
