Welcome to UOLCC!

Hi there, and welcome to the University of Leeds cycling club! We aim to encompass all cycling disciplines from downhill mountain biking to track cycling, and welcome all ability levels with members ranging from novice to elite level athletes. Members can enjoy weekly road and mountain bike rides, trips further afield to places such as Scotland, Wales and the Lake District, spinning sessions and gryphon support, along with a range of other social events. Scroll down for more information!

Road Rides

A RIDES for training (~16-18mph)
- Wednesday afternoons 2:00PM and Saturday mornings 10:00AM

B RIDES for club riding (~14-16mph)
- Wednesday afternoons 2:00PM and Saturday mornings 10:00AM

SOCIAL RIDES for leisure riding (~12-14mph)

- Saturday mornings 10:00AM

Running during university term time, these rides tend to range in length/distance from 20 - 80 miles and are weather/attendance dependent. Our meeting place is opposite The Original Oak in Headingley. Helmets are compulsary. Please keep an eye on our facebook group for organisation of these (and any additional) rides.

Mountain Bike Rides

Mountain bike rides provisionally take place on Wednesday afternoons 2:30PM and Sundays 11:00AM but are very much VARIABLE; keep an eye on the Facebook page for impromptu rides. We are lucky to have an extensive range of riding right on our doorstep in Leeds which means that we can cater for a vast array of different disciplines and preferences from DH to XC  and everything in between.

Our meeting place is opposite The Original Oak in Headingley.  Helmets are compulsary as are frequent skids and wheelies. Please keep an eye on our facebook group for organisation of these and any additional rides.

We run a number of trips to UK trail centres throughout the academic year and plan to supplement these trips with a few gravity orientated uplift days.

Club members have attended UK gravity enduro rounds this year and plan to do similarly again next year. We are also keen to make strong appearances at both the DH and XC BUCS competitions this year.

Trips and Socials

We have some of the best riding in the country on our doorstep to enjoy, as well as trips further afield to places such as the Lake District, Scotland and Wales, and to the Manchester Velodrome.

At the start of term we hold an annual LYCRA OTLEY RUN, then throughout the year other social events such as film screenings, quiz's and nights out. Head down to the Original Oak on a Wednesday for our regular pub social - good food, drink and conversation! Please join our facebook group for organisation of these.

Club Support and Success

We are a 'Gryphon club' which means we are supported by the University in recognition of our achievements and strength. Members receive physio at a reduced cost, get free sports massages, and have access to the Strength and Conditioning room at the Edge (with an Edge Sports Pass) - see here.

The club is British Cycling affiliated so those interested in competition are greatly encouraged - for race licences select 'Leeds University Gryphons Cycling Team'.

We also have access to the Brownlee Centre and cycle circuit, so look out for opportunities to race crits right on your doorstep!
