Bracken Court is a mixed hostel based in the outskirts of Leeds, which describes its target group as ‘single homeless people with support needs’.  The hostel has 12 single rooms in which residents usually stay for an average of 4 months, after which time their assigned keyworker will assist in finding appropriate ‘move on’ for the individual.  The hostel is very well facilitated, with fortnightly health drop in sessions, keyworkers, and regular residents meetings.

HOMED has had a long relationship with Bracken Court, and we have become established in the regular itinerary of the hostel.  The weekly visits – involving a cooked meal, and activities including table tennis – are eagerly anticipated by many of the tenants.  Hostel staff have said: ‘The tenants look forward to students coming to visit and chatting with them. Students are very well missed by tenants when they are on leave”.  Student volunteers also very much enjoy the visits, finding that they get to know the tenants over the weeks and engage in many lively discussions.

Budelia, Alicia and Heather will be taking you on the visits this year!
