What we’re all about
Jiu Jitsu is a traditional Japanese martial art focusing on self defence, locks, throws, and groundwork. Beginners are welcome at LUU Jiu Jitsu and it's a great way of getting fit and meeting new people! As well as teaching you how to defend yourself, Jiu Jitsu will also help your strength, posture, and self-esteem. The club has a vibrant social scene and compete nationally, winning a number of medals and trophies every year.

The best way to find out about Jiu Jitsu is to come along to one of our sessions. Starting a martial art may be daunting but we provide a friendly, relaxed atmosphere where members can progress at their own pace. Your first session is completely FREE! All you need to do is wear loose clothing and bring enthusiasm! Why not bring a friend, you'll even get another free session!
Our GIAG is the best way to get to know people and learn about all things Jitsu. Experience your first throw, lock and bottle attack. And it's completely FREE! And to make things even better, your first session afterwards is also completely free - just in case one session wasn't enough to convince you!
Our club has a vibrant social life with events throughout the year. There is also the opportunity to attend regional, national and international courses and competitions. Socials include BBQs, Games Nights, Trampolining, Meals and our popular Drink To A Dan. In the past, we've done bigger trips such as travelling to Belgium and this year, we're excited to say that we're planning trips to paintballing and Alton Towers!
All members of the club wishing to train for long periods of time must be insured. The first two weeks of training are free but afterwards, a fee of £30 must be paid to The Jitsu Foundation. This insurance lasts a year and means that you are insured not only at LUU Jiu-Jitsu club but also at regional and national events and other TJF clubs in the UK.
