Welcome to the University of Leeds Mechanical Engineering Society!
We are a departmental society aimed at integrating all divisions and years that are a part of the Mechanical Engineering School. But we don’t stop there! Anyone interested in mechanical engineering is more than welcome to join!
Joining is a great way to meet other people on your course, as well as those with similar interests. The best way to stay up to date with what we have planned is to like our LUU Mechanical Engineering Society Facebook page and turn notifications on!
Our 2017-2018 aims are to:
- Put on a large variety and number of socials
- Develop and stengthen links with industry
- Get more people involved in intramural sports
- Provide exclusive merchandise
- Improve your time at Leeds
We hope to achieve all this by collaborating with the school, other engineering societies and yourselves!
If you are interested in getting involved or have any questions feel free to contact any members of the society, or message us at firstname.lastname@example.org.

This year we want to put on a bigger range of socials, including a variety of both new and old ideas! We know that everyone is different, so as well as the usual Otley Runs and Fruity Fridays, we will be putting on pub quizes, paintball day outs and trips to see Leeds Rhinos & Leeds United play in order to ensure there is something for everyone to enjoy. We also have plans to join up with other engineering societies for bigger and better socials throughout the year. Ideas are always welcome!
Come along to our Meet and Greet event in the Terrace Bar situated in the Union on the 6th October 2017 at 8:30 PM to meet fellow Mech Eng Soc members and the committee! FREE DRINKS INCLUDED!
Last year we held:
Meet and Greet - At the end of September more than 70 engineers took over Revolutions for our Meet and Greet social which was a great way to meet some new people and to start the new uni year.
Engineering Otley Run - We joined up with other engineering societies to put on the biggest Otley Run Leeds has seen. Only a brave few made it to the end but everyone had a good night.
Pub Quiz - On October 17th we ran our pub quiz in the union. With over 50 people taking part we managed to raise £60 for the Leeds Children's Charity and the winners went home with chocolates and 5 bottles of prosecco.
Paintball - The Mech Eng Soc vs Shock Soc paintball day was a muddy but great day out for everyone who went and provided many thrills.
Fruity Social - Hard to go wrong with a fruity social, especially when we gave out a free drinks token to everyone that was a member.
Christmas Meal - We held a very successful Christmas meal at Revs which was a good last social of the year!
NI Pub Quiz - National Instruments ran their pub quiz for us again this year with both staff and student teams taking part.
5-A-Side Football Tournament GIAG - Our 5-a-side football tournament was a great success with over 90 players taking part in 16 different teams. Over the two hours nealy 50 games were played and 50 Shades of O'Shea were crowned the overall winners at the end!
Mechanical Engineering Spring Ball - On the 18th March Mech Eng Soc and Mech Eng Postgrad Soc hosted the first ever Mechanical Engineering Spring Ball! Held at the Hilton hotel it included a red carpet entrance, 3 course meal, wine, professional photographer and DJ.
Intramural sports are the perfect opportunity for people of all abilities to compete in a range of sports without the same commitment requirements as the university teams. In the past we have had two teams representing Mech Eng Society in intramural leagues and we are hoping to set up two more for this coming year.
New for this year we have set up a joint Engineering netball team with Civil Engineering. They play every Tuesday with training later in the week and are keen for any new members. For any more info or to join the team just send us a message!
Mech Eng Rugby finds the right balance between competitive sport and socialising. We are a part of the intramural league with games on Sundays against the likes of Law and Physics. We train every Wednesday in Hyde Park and all abilities are welcome. Socials are a big part of the team, with a number being put on throughout the year as well as after most matches. You can find more information on our facebook page:
Membership will give you exclusive benefits such as discounted social prices and priority over tickets, as well as receiving a Revolution Bar members card which offers 2-4-1 on cocktails and a 25% discount on all food. These can be bought by clicking the blue 'Join this group' button at the top of the page.
