The Club

The club has been part of the Universities performance sports programme since 2007 and since then has progressed, rapidly becoming one of the biggest and best clubs in the University. Not only this but with six teams we are one of the few sporting societies that are able to cater for any and all qualities of player.

All six teams are fielded twice a week, once on Wednesday in the BUCS competition, and once on Saturday in each team's respective league. The Club is also going through a new top-tier merger with Leeds Hockey club and Leeds Beckett University in order to push for a position in the National League on a weekend - This will hopefully draw new talent in from across the City of Leeds. This also allows for further opportunities for players at the higher levels to play and represent at a level they are unable to play at on a Wednesday (BUCS). HOWEVER, our club is not just about our high performance sides, we compete at every level and when the sixth team stay away from the bars and a resident goal-keeper, they can be a formidable team.

As eluded to, the Club is a very social one and we have a whole club social every wednesday when everyone meets and can re-live that day's game over a couple of cold pints before the memory goes a little foggy later in the night. On top of this teams will have regular 'team nights' and we have special occasion socials such as the Christmas Curry, the Halloween Social, Beer Olympics and an end of year Alumni weekend which includes the club golf day and Hockey Ball! Socially, we have also been building our relationship with the Girls club - something we maintain to be an important aspect of our club both socially and personally. As well as being a good way to meet the ladies, we see it as a perfect opportunity to help the clubs thrive charitably and work together as one big cohesive group.

The Hockey Club is a great place to meet people and many of the friends made will become like family. Our club is one of inclusion and we strive to build a whole club mentality rather than a set of teams and this is why there is so much success surrounding us. This is no better shown than in Varsity against Leeds Met or in the Christie Cup which was held in Leeds last year.

We always welcome new members of any ability, so even if you have never picked up a stick before please come along to a session. If you are enthusiastic about the club we are more than willing to welcome you regardless of playing capability, If you are somewhat of a hockey prodigy however we demand you to come as there is no better place to play hockey and have a good time doing so.

If you are interseted in knowing more about us before getting to Uni then check out our other website listed below. When you arrive be sure to come to the Fresher's Fair where we will be situated in the Edge. We will be holding trials at the end of Fresher's week, Firday the 27th at Weetwood Halls which is a must, a great day and a good way to sweat out the booze accumulated in Fresher's week. If you miss the trials you are still welcome to come to any of the training sessions listed below:

1st XI - Tuesday 7.30pm - 9pm
2nd XI/3rd XI – Monday 8.30pm – 10pm
4th XI/5th XI/6th XI – Monday 5.30pm – 7pm

All training sessions are run by fully qualified hockey coaches.

In addition to Hockey, the club also has a busy social calendar. The club organizes a Christmas Meal, an end of year Hockey Ball and regular Wednesday night social events.

The club also partakes in regular fundraising activity, recently raising money for SUDEP Action, the Hospice in the Weald, Wheatfields Hospice, Brain Tumour UK and Prostate Cancer UK.
