Welcome to PSYCHED!

We are Leeds University's one and only society dedicated to the field of psychiatry and mental health.

Membership is open to ALL Leeds University students who have an interest in mental health. We aim to reduce the stigma associated with mental health, whilst raising awareness in a fun and informative way. We host a great mix of events - film nights, interesting talks, OSCE practice, and the hugely successful MedFest!! (which will be returning this year! More details below...)

We have links with Psychology Society (PsychSoc), and have both Psychology and Mental Health Nurse liaison reps on our committee. We welcome all psychologists/mental Health Nurses/anyone interested in mental health with open arms and will happily provide you with more information on the clinical applications of the field.

What do we do??

We offer lots for members and non-members and love to welcome new people! Some of the things we have done in the past and have planned for the future include:

  • Film nights
  • Socials
  • Medfest (The only National Medical Film Festival in the UK!)
  • Psychology and Psychiatry Mentoring
  • Charity events
  • Conferences (look out for the whereabouts of the National Student Psychiatry Conference this year!)
  • Debating
  • OSCE practice

Our Mentoring Scheme

We have a mentoring scheme in place where we match up students with psychiatrists / psychologists. This is a brilliant opportunity for those considering the possibility of a career in mental health. Definitely get involved in this as the experience is invaluable. With all the networking and academic opportunities we offer, Psyched hopes to boost your CV and make you the cream of the crop!

MEDFEST 2017

After the HUGE success of last year's event we will again hosting MedFest, the UK's only National Medical Film Festival for the sixth time in 2017. MedFest aims to provoke debate of the social, political, and ethical implications of mental illnesses in the media, with the help of a panel of experts and famous faces! Not to mention, like most Psyched events, a large amount of pizza and drinks will be provided!

You can check out more on our facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/luu.psyched/

And on the medfest website: http://medfest.co.uk

Why should you get involved with Psyched??

We have a lot of fun in what we do and are a very friendly society who love welcoming new people from lots of different backgrounds to promote positive messages of mental health.

Psyched offfers a fantastic opportunity to experience and cultivate interest in an area of medicine difficult to gain experience in.

Mental health is an important issue which is likely to effect us all at some point in our lives. Psyched gives you the opportunity to learn more about mental health and help promote awareness to others.

For the medics/budding medics out there, fancy a chance at being ahead of the game come 4th year OSCEs? We host practice mental health station sessions right before the exams.

Not only that but getting involved with Psyched is a great opportunity to meet like-minded people and make a whole heap of friends!

And finally, want to be at the top of the jobs list?? With all the networking and academic opportunities we offer, Psyched will boost your CV! We do this via our established links with high profile psychiatrists and psychologists who are cool individuals invited regularly to our talks, debates and discussions so that we explore the world of the mind and how mental health impacts our society as a whole. It’s not all academic however and our events are very fun! We often hold movie nights and provide free food and drinks by our generous sponsors.

How do you benefit as a member?

We have lots to offer non-members and all events are open to everyone....

However becoming a member will open the door to much much more!
