Gribbs joined us in 2016 as our regular Thursday choreographer. She started as a dancer at Element Dance UK, and is now starting to set the pace as the sick choreographer she is.
Tia always brings great vibes to class by incorporating dance battles and freestyle sessions into her classes. Her style mainly focuses on the Hip Hop genre branching out into more experimental and soulful moves from time to time. She's already led us to victory at the annual LUU dance competition and also succeeds to continuously pick no.1 bangers to dance to every week. If you come to her classes on Thursday, you're guaranteed to feel her energy.
Tia has been a valuable member of Street Dance for the past 3 years and although she has now graduated, we hope that she will make a return throughout the year. Growing up in Manchester, she started at TLG Dance before moving to Sunshine studios then Gorse Hill studios training with the group Supafly.
She provides killer hip hop and dancehall routines which are continuously incorporated in our competition routines. She has had a massive impact on our previous competition sets which have lead us to victory on numerous occasions. Keep an eye out for Tia's return in 2017/18 as her classes are not one to miss out on!
Come to a street social for the best night out in Leeds!
We also have big events throughout the year such as our international tour in Lloret Spain or our Street Dance Ball held in the Hilton Hotel:
Meet The Committee!
Tanita Lewis - President
Hey everyone, Lil Tatz here and this year I’ve got the privilege and pleasure of being the president of this beautiful society! For those who have heard of us before - y’all already know what is - and for those of you yet to find out… Street will supply you with the best vibes and most amount of madness any society has to offer, and of course don’t forget the lit dancing ;) come along and meet the society that’s gonna make your year at Leeds Uni. Mad love and looking forward to meeting you all, I’m out.
Rachael Mwangi - Vice President
Hey guys, Rachael here (also known as Rachy Rach) and for the next academic year I will be your vice president. I honestly cannot wait for you guys to join the family where you’ll meet amazing people who love and share the same thing, DANCE! My role is to make sure everyone is happy and everything is functioning well behind the scenes (in summary that is). Street dance for me has been one amazing journey where I’ve not only grown as a dancer but as a person as well. I’ve made amazing friends who are a bit LOCO but that’s what we love here. Like everything in life, what you put in is what you get out so be sure to come to our classes as much as you can, as they not only build your strength but your self-confidence which is so important. Once again, I cannot wait to meet you guys, don’t be shy to holla at any of us, we will all be more than happy to chat and even share a few moves here and there, see you soon! xx
Saphron Martin - Secretary
Hey! Im Saphron the (sarcastic) Street Dance Secretary. Bit of a tongue twister. I'll be here for the next year answering all your emails, general questions and booking out BIG rooms for all our classes and rehearsals so we have the max amount of space to jam. I only joined Street Dance in September 2016 even though I came to Leeds Uni in 2014 and it is my biggest regret! It's a great way to make friends, experience fantastic choreographers and engage in rewarding competitions and showcases. I would seriously recommend it to anyone who is debating it, just go for it! Can't wait to extend the Street family with you all x
Shiyi Xu (Olivia) - Treasurer
Hi guys~ I’m Olivia, this year’s treasurer. My job is mainly to control £££ ~ so, I’m gonna annoy you guys with my blue tin to collect money from you before class starts.
Believe me ‘Streetdance soc’ is the best and cutest family you may have never seen. Do not be afraid of anything, give it a try, even if you do not know how to dance!
Joining us you can also get the opportunity to take part in competitions, I believe all of the experiences with Streetdance is going to be the best part of your uni life! I’m looking forward to meeting all of you soon ;)
Ellen Frost - Dance Rep
Hey ho! I'm Ellen, one of the two dance reps for Street Dance 2017/18. Myself and Rhea's job is to enter our society for competitions within uni and at others. Last year we won best overall dance society at our intercomp against all the other dance societies at Leeds! With your help we hope to replicate this success this year. We also organise our annual charity show, so if you guys and your friends have any hidden talents let us know!
My university experience would not be the same without being a part of Street Dance, so make sure you come along to our classes- see you there!
India Coomber- PR & Sponsorship
Hey I'm India and I'm one half of the PR and sponsorship team. We're in charge of how you guys and others view our society and will be trying super hard to get exposure for the society from across the country. I will also be working along social secs to organise socials. I can honestly say that joining street dance society was the best thing I've done since coming to university, we are an incredibly fun, diverse group of people that welcome anyone and everyone! Hope to welcome you to our family soon!
Tomisin Otenigbagbe- PR & Sponsorship
Hi everyone! I'm Tomisin and I'm the other half of the PR & Sponsorship Team. Our role includes getting the best deals for the society as well as some coins (we dance AND make money moves). I'm so glad that I joined Street and I couldn't imagine uni without my energetic and crazy fun family. There's room for everyone in this society, from beginners to advanced dancers and I'm sure you'll have a blast in class! See you soon x
Natasha Baugh - Social Sec
Heya! My name is Natasha and I am one half of your social sec duo for this year! I study Philosophy at Leeds and have been a member of Street since I joined uni a year ago. You can probably find me and my other half Lizzie talking nonsense at class on a Wednesday or getting down in Clarks on a Thursday but wherever we are, we are bringing the party and we want you to join us! We are so excited to be organising the social and, let's be honest, fun side of Street this year and have got socials lined up to ensure we have the biggest and most nonsensical parties this society has ever seen! So stick with us and be part of the best society Leeds has to offer! See ya round x
Elizabeth Martin Hernandez - Social Sec
Hey future street members, as we all know uni is mainly about the partying (oh and there's the degree aswell) and us streetdance lot work hard which of course means we party harder! Whether we're tearing up thhe dancefloor at backroom, spending an evening stuffing ourselves with jerk chicen and jollof at our food 'n' chill socials, or just vibing to good music, you will not want to miss out on all the madness! And to top it off, at the end of the year street goes internationalas we hit up Barcelona for a week of sun, streetdance (and probs too many shots). I'm currently a seond year studying languages and education and arguably spent most of my first year going to the strreet socials than studying, but I had the best experiences and met an amazing group of people. My partner in crime is fellow social sec Tasha and we've got a great year planned for you guys, wich you deffo won't want to miss out on! Lizzie xo
Ra'shaan Leon - Creative Director
Heyy everyone, I’m Ra’shaan, this year’s Creative Director. My role is to film you guys performing new routines at our weekly classes, rehearsals for competitions and performances at events such as Intercomp, which we won last year. I will also be editing all the videos to a high professional quality to post on all our social media pages and YouTube. I joined Street Dance last year in November and it was one of the best decisions I made. It is a wonderful way to make friends at uni, experience superb choreographers and provides an opportunity to take part in competitions and performances throughout the year. I would suggest you join Street and just go with the flow and enjoy the great fun with us and all the other nonsense.
We also have our own clothing line STREET x VirtueClothing
