LUUWMS - who & what we are
When it all goes wrong, you’re hours away from hospital, in unforgiving conditions, on a misty mountain top, what are you going to do? Our society is all about expedition medicine and learning to keep that person alive before the paramedics arrive or you can get that person to hospital. Whether it’s a career in wilderness medicine you’re interested in or just enjoy roaming the great outdoors whilst learning first aid and basic life support, we’re the society for you.
We do affordable weekend scenario trips to areas such as the Lake District, Snowdonia and Northumberland where we hike and get involved with mountain rescue as well as friendly day walks. We will also get experienced expedition doctors in from Yorkshire to do talks on their experiences and how to integrate it into your own careers.
We provide the opportunity to go to wilderness weekends where you meet with other student from other universities and receive talks from experts.
We have many socials throughout the year where we welcome both old and new members.
We will be having a well anticipated Otley Run in the autumn to welcome all our new members and several pub nights where we can all catch up over a few drinks.
Wilderness Medicine is a very friendly bunch who love a nice scenic walk, a bit of excitement, and a bevvy or two in the pub. Join us at Leeds University Union Wilderness Medicine Society (LUUWMS)!
