Welcome to the 2016/17 year with Leeds University Union Wine Society!
Cork the Blossom Hill and the Barefoot, leave the pinot grigio on the shelf and let us uncork some fine wines from around the world. Whether you’re a complete novice or a connoisseur to the wonderful world of wine, we’d love you to join us for some fantastic wines at a variety of different events. There's no snobbery, waistcoats or bow ties! We only want you to have fun learning, tasting and making new friends with the LUU Wine Society. We hope that each event will give you a little bit more insight and knowledge about wine and why it is so unique.
We pride ourselves on buying almost all of our wine from independent merchants and supporting local businesses. Some events require buying wine from elsewhere due to the geography of the wine region, but we try to make this minimal.
We don't only meet inside the Union. We also hold tastings in and around Leeds, visit a Yorkshire vinyard and go for meals out where you can bring your own wine. This year we are very thankful to be affliated with some great wine businesses (details TBA soon). Please note that some items might not be discounted. The management decision on discount is therefore final.
The LUU Wine Society promotes responsible and sensible drinking. We sample quality wines, but do not force people to drink everything on offer. There is a spittoon and water provided at each tasting. We also ensure all paper, cardboard and glass bottles are recycled at the end of an event.
We offer different levels of membership on a SEMESTER** basis. This year we are offering two different packages.
Standard – £12 per semester. This package includes a minimum reduction of £2 off Tuesday night Union-based events (excluding GIAG tastings).
Tuesday Pass – £45 for Semester 1. This package has a savings of £35 and includes the cost of most Tuesday night events (premium GIAG) and a discount card Great for those worried about money by the end of the semester but still want an active social life.
Every event is cheaper for members, but non-members are very welcome to join us too so grab your friends! Give It A Go (GIAG) sessions are always a great way to see what we're about and meeting everyone in a fun filled atmosphere.
We hope to see you all soon!
- Flo, Ben, Mia, Michelle, Luke
*Please note that membership is nonrefundable due to the cost of products based on predicted numbers per event.
**Semester 1 official dates are between 28/9/16 - 11/12/16. Additional socials outside of term time or Tuesday nights do occasionally happen, but these are organized within other establishments and thus everyone has a responsibility to cover their own costs if they wish to attend.
