We think it’s really important that staff know what’s going on throughout the organisation.
LUU is a big place with a whole host of services on offer but essentially we are all working towards the same goals. That’s why we think that if you work in a bar you should know what’s going on in student activities and vice versa.
We want to tell you all our news but we also want to know what you think. There are plenty of opportunities for you to give us your ideas and opinions.
We recognise that by working together and listening to everyone’s ideas we can become an even better students’ union and really make sure that every student loves their time at Leeds.
This meeting is designed to allow you to ask anything! It is attended by the Union Affairs officer (Jack Palmer), the Chief Executive (Aidan Grills) and the Director of People and Quality (Antonia Frezza). They will answer any questions that you bring along whether they are your own or even a list of questions from your team. You can even submit anonymous questions, using this link here and all the questions that were asked and answered will be made publically below after each meeting.
Everyone is welcome to come along but we will specifically invite a random group of people to try to ensure that we have someone from every department represented.
Friday 10th November 14:00-15:00 Room 5
Wednesday 7th February 12:00-13:00 Room 6
Thursday 3rd May 13:00-14:00 Room 5
The LUU staff focus group will be facilitated by a member of the People team, this is an opportunity for us to hear your voice. Each month we will bring a set of questions to get feedback on, these will be influenced by live projects that the team or LUU is working on so we can get real time feedback. But there will always be the space for any other business at the meeting so if there is something you want to tell us and you can’t see any other opportunity then come along and speak up.
Everyone is welcome to come along to this session and we won’t be sending out specific invites so it is down to the people who want to turn up!

We love to celebrate how great our people are, so each week we gather up your nominations for all those collagues who have gone above and beyond, who have helped us out or who have achieved something amazing. You can nominate anyone in the organisation here and each week the nominations and winner is announced in the Staff E-mail. All the weekly winners also get shortlisted as nominees in our shining stars!
If you haven’t heard about it already, we don’t know where you’ve been hiding! The Shining Stars scheme is LUU’s way of ensuring that staff who have gone over and above the call of duty outside of their normal role are recognised and rewarded for it.
The winner in each category receives £100 to spend on anything they choose.
Shining Stars is open to ANY member of LUU staff. Basically, YOU nominate a teammate, colleague or even department who you feel deserves to be recognised. You can make a nomination at any point in the year in the following categories:
In LUU being inclusive is about reaching out to everybody. Who do you know who tries to remove barriers to our services and finds new ways to engage students and others in our work?
We want to recognise those whose knowledge of LUU enables them to give excellent service, those who are adaptable to others needs and those who are really committed to helping their customers.
Being enterprising is not about making money, it’s about being resourceful, and coming up with new ways of doing things. Who can you think of who generates creative solutions to problems in LUU?
Empowering others is about how we use our skills and talents to encourage those around us. Who can you think of who has given you the chance to try something new or has someone you know been the one who has jumped at the chance to deliver something different?
How can we make LUU a fun place to be? Fun is not about being the zaniest person around, it is about encouraging others to enjoy what they do. Who in LUU always makes your day and helps you to love your job?
You can nominate someone by filling out a shining stars nomination form here. Your nomination will automatically be sent to The People Team. The awards are held twice a year in June and December – these are LUU’s mini-version of the Oscars! The finalists are selected by last years winners and the SLT team pick the winners.
The deadline for nominations is the 10th June and 30th November each year.
Previous winners have spent their hard-earned cash on a wide range of prizes including: a digital camera, holiday vouchers, a new mobile phone, GHD hair straighteners, a spa day, gym equipment, and garden furniture
