Whether you work behind the scenes, are front of house in Bars or Retail or provide support in services like our Student Advice Centre, you’ll be working towards the same goal - ensuring our student members love their time at Leeds.
We're home to 34,000 students at Leeds University, forming the heart of the University of Leeds campus. Joining our team really does mean joining a fast-moving organisation, around 17,000 people pass through our building on a typical day.
LUU is a vibrant and exciting place to work, employing 600 staff members to help ensure our student members love their time at Leeds. We advertise roles throughout the year and have opportunities across a wide range of areas including retail, bars, cafes, catering and student help and support.
One of our key aims is to support student staff with improving their employability through gaining skills and experience and so we offer large number of part time roles to fit around studies. Our student staff are supported by around 170 career staff. They manage commercial operations and membership services or work in areas like Finance, HR and Marketing to make sure everything is running smoothly all year round.
We're run by six elected officers – the Student Executive – who are students at the University. The Exec positions are hotly contested each year in our very own Leadership Race. Our Senior Leadership Team (including the Chief Executive and four Directors) exist alongside the Student Exec to support them and lead the staff.
We’re a registered charity and work in close partnership with the University of Leeds, so six leaders isn’t quite enough. We also have a Board of Trustees made up of the Student Exec and a number of other interested individuals. The Board scrutinise what we do, how we do it and what it costs, making sure we’re always acting in the organisation’s best interests.
These are our behaviours – how everyone lives at Leeds University Union, each and every day. We make each other smile and treat everyone with respect. We’re always helpful to our colleagues and customers. We encourage new ideas, relish problem solving and new challenges. If you think you can work for an organisation where these values really matter, you’ve come to the right place.
We’re an organisation that puts people at the centre of everything we do. It’s important that you’re able to put your talents to good use – whether that’s strategic thinking, delivering great customer service or judging our very own staff baking league! It's also essential your voice is heard on the things that matter to you. We provide lots of outlets – from breakfast meetings with the Senior Leadership team, to company-wide meetings four times a year. People frequently get together over a cuppa to bring new ideas to the table.
You can expect a busy, energetic place of work with lots going on; everyone is working towards making sure our students get the most out of their time at university. One thing we'll guarantee – you’ll meet lots of friendly faces and ambitious people along the way.
