Idea Title:

Should the Union provide more food options for celiacs and students with other food allergies?

What the idea is about:

There needs to be more choice of food for celiacs and students with other food allergies available in the student union.

Why have you proposed it?:

Celiacs disease is an intolerance of gluten mainly found in wheat that is now very common across all ages ranges. Immediate side effects of eating gluten include sickness, diarrhea, tummy aches and headaches, not eating the right diet can also cause celiacs to become deficient in other important vitamins, most commonly iron and folic acid which can cause anaemia and the long term consequences can lead to bowel cancer. Gluten is hidden in many foods you would expect if you didn't have to look out for it, for example in many dressings and sources, I think there are maybe 2 salads out of many in the uni shop that are actually gluten free.

There is a really small selection of food available that is suitable for celiacs in the shop at the student union and only one choice on the terrace menu!!! It makes things really difficult for some students to get food easily and isn't really fair. Lots of restaurants and other super markets cater for these needs why does the union not as it is a common allergy.
